The Business of IoT – It’s Not About the Technology
My goal for this blog is to cut through the clutter and noise to make the business of IoT more valuable to you. There is enough hype out there already.
What is the “business” of IoT, you ask? It happens to be where the majority of effort is required to take advantage of any opportunity IoT and connected products offer. You see, existing organizations need to adapt to a new economy; one that is based on data from machines. Typically, so much focus is on the technology when it comes to IoT, and rightfully so. IoT technology solutions are complex. However, they are known.
In other words, solving IoT technical challenges are very doable and there are lots of companies and people out there who can do a great job solving them. They have a formulaic approach to designing and implementing the, “Full Stack” of IoT technology and can make it function to spec. I have the privilege of working with many of them.
Once the technology is in place, the ability to solve the challenges that an organization faces, is the difference between success and failure – no matter which technology you have chosen. There is no formula that prepares and organizes a company to create value with IoT. Every organization is different and has its own varying level of skills, resources, and cultural “gravity” to overcome.
These are the challenges that I and Connected Methods, LLC are here to help solve. It is my vocation and what I love to do.
I will be sharing my experiences “in the trenches” in hopes of passing useful insights to the people facing similar challenges and wanting to reap the promise of what IoT-enabled business models have to offer.
Hopefully you will gain valuable insight into how IoT applies to your business, the new business models IoT enables, and how to best get your organization pushing it ahead.
See you on the road.
